Tokyo Grill is one of my go to Japanese take out restaurants in Columbia, SC. I have tried a few different things on the menu but ole faithful has to be their Hibachi Shrimp. I have had hibachi shrimp from restaurants all over the Carolinas and Tokyo Grill’s stands up with some of the best of them. With large shrimp coated in sauce, heaps of hibachi vegetables and a huge mound of fried fried rice, the hibachi shrimp at Tokyo Grill is everything you would want from Japanese takeout and more.
Here is how the Tokyo Grill menu describes their Hibachi Shrimp plate:
“Fresh grilled shrimp and broccoli. Served with fried rice, zucchini and onions.”
How’s that for straight to the point? They don’t try to dress it up as more than it is. The hibachi shrimp at Tokyo Grill is a pretty simple plate, or styrofoam tray if you are getting takeout, that is a delicious option for take out in Columbia, SC.

When I order Tokyo Grill I typically call in and pick up. The staff is usually pretty good about answering the phone quickly and taking your order. Sometimes the manner in which they take your order can seem a bit rude but I try my best to ignore that part of the deal. After I place my order it usually takes about ten minutes for the food to be ready so I don’t have much time to dilly dally before heading over to the restaurant. I walk in, pay, pick up my food and am usually in and out in less than five minutes. Like I mentioned in the review of Tokyo Grill as a whole, this is a great place to eat if you are on a time crunch or if your stomach is about to start eating itself.
When I get home and pop open the styrofoam tray this is what I am presented with:

As you can see you get plenty of food out of this deal. About half of the tray is full of fried rice while the other half is a conglomerate of hibachi shrimp and vegetables including broccoli, zucchini and onions. I personally have trouble finishing this entire tray in a single sitting and have just enough leftovers for a light lunch the next day.
The size of the shrimp are good and you can definitely tell that they are larger and likely more fresh than the shrimp that you find when you order shrimp fried rice at Eggroll Chen on Garners Ferry. The quality of the meal as a whole is not far off from what I experience at many sit down Japanese restaurants in Columbia. One that comes to mind is Sato Japanese Restaurant on Beltline. Other than the fact that you get to see a talented chef cook the food at Sato, both restaurants are quite similar food wise in my opinion. The fact that you can get a solid sit down quality meal in takeout format for under $10 is great if you ask me.
All things considered the hibachi shrimp at Tokyo Grill is a great deal and is worth every penny and even worth the attitude that you may or may not get over the phone when you order. My rating for the hibachi shrimp at Tokyo Grill is a solid 8.1.
